Brief

Parua Bay School is a Decile 9 co-educational full primary school, located in Parua Bay, 19 kilometres east of Whangarei, catering for students from year 1 to year 8.

In an area designated as a growth node by Whangarei District Council’s (WDC) District Growth Strategy it is experiencing exponential growth, with the roll expected to grow from 358 students to the maximum of 441 over the coming years.

The project formed part of the Northland Pipeline of Works is made up of seven (7) schools that have been identified as requiring work to be carried out through the Services Delivery team (5YA), Roll Growth, as well as the Ministry’s Building Improvement Programme (BIP).

In order to facilitate new growth, a new 2 storey, 8 classroom teaching block incorporating WC and breakout facilities was created, in addition to refurbishing an existing building to provide new staff facilities, demolish existing buildings and provide new car parking and entrance/exit lanes to the school complex.

Arcwell were contracted to provide the metalwork items for this project, consisting of galvanised tube handrails for the access ramp and stairs leading down from the main road to the school grounds, and a  sheet metal entry shelter. We designed, fabricated and installed a complex seamless curved handrail with kick boards to the ramp and stairs, with well over 50 bends in multple directions going into the handrail to create the shape required.
