Leaf Springs have been around since the mid-17th century and are still a popular suspension component on heavy commercial vehicles, such as delivery vans, trucks, buses, and railway carriages. At Arcwell have a long history working with truck and trailer springs and all associated parts, including bushes, shackle pins and U-Bolts.

Leaf Spring Reset

Lots of kilometres travelled and/or heavy use can cause leaf springs to sag over time – especially common in commercial applications. If your leaf springs have lost their arch (with no broken or cracked leaves) they can often be revived by simply resetting (re-tensioning) the spring to regain the original height. We also re-set springs to re-shape them after failed COF Inspections.

In some cases, we can add an additional leaf to the spring pack to increase their payload. Re-setting and/or adding an extra leaf can dramatically improve the ride height, ride comfort and bump stop clearance.

Leaf Spring Repairs

In many cases leaf springs can be repaired. If the overall spring pack is in good shape you may be able to simply replace broken or bent leaves, bushings, center bolts and keepers.

We simply take out the broken leaf and replace it with tempered spring steel. We can then re-arch the spring and bring it back to or even increase its original arch and load capacity.

U Bolts

U-bolts come in all sorts of varying sizes, usually specific to the vehicle they are installed on. We can custom bend U-bolts to match manufacturer specifications, or create a custom shape, depending on what you require.
